I had a really good sleep last night. It was so quiet and peaceful. This morning I was able to soak my feet in cold water and then massage them. I had to wear my bug jacket and pants though because the black flies and mosquitos were so bad. I think they thought I was breakfast. It was already sooo hot by the time I was on the highway.
I started with a mile long climb up a pretty steep hill. I was glad to get it out of the way early except there were more to come. It felt like a constant climb. After a few miles I was soaked with sweat and had to change socks more frequently. I passed a couple more cyclists. Again I was on the lookout for moose but didn't see any.
It felt hotter and longer running today cause of the heat and hills but also I wasn't near the water anymore. I was heading into the Lake Superior Park and surrounded by alot of bush. I came up to the Parc Office and decided to stop. I'm glad I did. They had a pop machine and water. A few miles down the road I came up to Rabbit Blanket Lake campground. This is where I would spend the night. I went for a swim, bought some ice for my feet and setup my tent. Thats where I met Dennis. He passed my campsite and asked me what I was doing. After talking to him for a bit he asked me if I ever experienced some 'trail magic'. When I asked him what that was he explained its when someone leaves you a bottle of water on a rock when your hiking. Then I knew what he meant. I called them 'Angels'. He saw me munching on some ice cubes and invited me to join him for dinner. Not only did he share his meal with me but pieces of his life. He talked about his wife, children & grandchildren, and his wood carving business chippingaway.com
While I was falling asleep I thought about how fortunate I was to have met Dennis. He introduced me to some trail magic and made sure I had plenty to eat and even made coffee. It was such a pleasure to meet him.
Even animals need compassion and kindness!
