I had a restless sleep and was sluggish getting up. It seemed to take a long time to get packed up. Before I left the campground I phoned the Sault Star and arranged to meet with a reporter around noon on my way to the Humane Society.
The run to the Sault was pretty easy going. It was flat and the shoulders were paved. I hit a bit of construction and the workers there let me run on the closed off side. It was great. Felt like the road was mine.
I made a pit stop at the Husky station. Just before I reached the Humane Society, Mike from the Sault Star caught up with me and took some pictures. He said the article should be in tomorrows paper.
I got to the Humane Society and met the staff there. They gave me something to drink and a tour of their shelter. They were very friendly and signed my flag and wished me luck.
I made it to Betty's place. She would put me up for the night. Betty is a friend of John & Susan's and my sister Chris. She had lunch waiting, soup & sandwich. It didn't take long before I realized what a good friend she is. She is so kind. She took me to the mall so I could buy a new pair of shoes and get some supplies. She brought me for a tour around Sault Ste Marie and then up the hwy to see what the next day had in store for me. She made dinner and we had some great conversation and checked out my route ahead on maps. She wanted to make sure I had enough to eat and would make breakfast before I left in the morning. She even gave me a water filter bottle to use in the lakes when I run out. Thank you Betty!
I have a tough challenge ahead of me for the next 6 or so days. I'm not afraid. I take it one day at a time. I never know how its going to turn out but I know its worth it. I still believe as strongly today about what I'm doing as the first step I took in St. John's. I always believe that the next step I take is going to be the step that makes a difference. I'm more afraid that if I stop now I'll never know.
