Day 131 - Stuart Lake

Gidget #2

The new wheels on Gidget started out working great and appeared to be the solution but then gradually the axles started to bend causing the wheels to rub against her frame. The weight was proving to be too much for the custom wheels. There were more hills in this area and it got to the point where it was like trying to push a heavy rock. There was too much resistance to push her anymore. It felt like dragging a piano.

I made it to Stuart Lake where there was a Can Op restaurant, about 35 miles east of Kenora. This would be the end of the road for Gidget #1. I met Lawrence who took me and Gidget #1 to The Hardware Company bike store in Kenora to see if we could get her fixed. The best they could do was try and bend the axles back and switch the wheels around and hope that the same problem wouldn't re-occur. They had one running stroller in the store called 'The Chariot'. As soon as I saw it I knew that was the better option. The Chariot became Gidget #2. The store gave me a discount and two new tubes. It was hard to leave Gidget #1 but she had brought me this far and did her time. Gidget #2 will have to get me the rest of the way.

Awww Michelle! I didn't know about Gidget-- I feel almost sad that I put some pictures of her on the Let Live Canada site this week. But on the other hand, she served you so well. May your new "chariot" last the rest of your journey and safely home.
