Day 134 - West Hawk Lake

Carol dropped me off in the morning and sent me on my way with a few treats. She took a few more pictures. As I left I felt like I was leaving a friend behind, Gidget #1.

I passed a few joggers on my way out. There was beautiful scenery to keep me from thinking about the time. I especially liked the Clearwater Bay area. It was Saturday and there were people out on the lake. It was a sunny and warm day and there were lots of hills. I passed a couple of cyclists.

I had run about twenty miles and soon I would be out of Ontario and into Manitoba. The thought of that was getting exciting. Before I got to the border I ran passed a couple of OPP cars with their radar guns and said hello, they said hello back. A little further I passed a deer on the side that had been recently hit by a car.

Finally after thirty miles of running I saw the signs for the Welcome Centre. I couldn't believe I was leaving the province of Ontario and entering Manitoba. I clinched my fists and did my own little happy dance on the highway. I don't think anyone was looking except the big guy. I made a stop at the Manitoba Info Centre and they told me the campground was just a few miles ahead. While I was there I met two young boys riding their bikes who signed my flag. I also met a WW2 vet who I chatted with for a bit. He's 87 and it was so interesting to hear him speak about his life. He was on his way to Timmins and he wished me all the best.

I made it to West Hawk Lake and met a couple of woman at the store who were very supportive. When I got to the campground they were already pretty full. The first spot they gave me was on a hill so I asked to be moved. All was fine until my neighbors arrived. Three young woman next to me and three young guys next to them and they were in a party mood. I'm glad I liked the music they were playing but I didn't get much sleep but I didn't care much cause I was finally in Manitoba.
