Dear Friend,

My name is Michelle Jameus and on April 15, 2007 I will begin running and carrying a flag across Canada to plead for our animals and to tell their tragic story. It needs to be told. Over a million abandoned and unwanted healthy and treatable pets are killed in Canada every year. Why do they have to die?

Homeless pets come from everywhere: your neighbour, a friend, your family, the street and the wild. We’ve failed to control the breeding of our animals and we have created a surplus of millions of animals that society has no homes for. What a heavy burden we have put on our animal shelters. For every animal that dies in a shelter someone is responsible.

The fact is, its’ not necessary but the sad reality is some peoples’ eyes and hearts see killing as the only solution to the overpopulation problem and have justified it in their own minds so that they are comfortable with it. Animals can’t speak but they can suffer and we spare ourselves from the site of their suffering. They need us to be their voice. They need us to open our eyes and hearts.

There is good news! There is a better way that doesn’t involve killing. There’s a preventative program that solves the problem and it works. We just need all of Canada to step up and respond. We just have to make the decision that we will not destroy a healthy treatable animal just because society says there are too many. But the problem will continue as long as people only see killing as a solution and thousands and thousands and thousands will die in an animal shelter until we change their hearts.

The only solution that works is a preventative program that controls the overpopulation problem.

The solution rests on all our shoulders to be responsible owners and act now.

Please help us while they are still alive. Please have mercy on these helpless living creatures.
It’s never too soon to do an act of kindness but for many of these animals it will soon be too late.

Any act of kindness will help because together everyone’s gift will save lives and solve the problem without killing. Please help us solve the problem once and for all.
