Day 97 - McAuleys

I started the day having breakfast with Betty. It was great chatting with her cause she had alot of experiences that related to what I was going through. I am so grateful for the kindness she has shown me.

On my way out of town I stopped and filled Gidgets tires with some air. Hopefully that would make it easier getting up the hills. I was confident we could do it even though it felt like we were about to enter a whole new world.

We got through the first few hills and I thought that wasn't so bad. The scenery was getting very interesting and helped pass the time. Before I knew it I was closing in on mile 20. I met a few people cycling around Lake Superior. They forewarned me about some hills to come. I went a few more miles and Gidgets front wheel fell off. It wouldn't stay on so I just left it off.

I reached my destination, McAuleys Motel and Restaurant. I would ask them if I could put my tent up at the back of the motel. Just as I arrived Betty and a friend of hers spotted me and pulled up to ask me how I was doing. They were on their way to dinner. That would be the last time I would see a familiar face for awhile.

I went into the store and met the owner Ady. He has a great gift store and also runs the motel. They had a hitch hikers bunkhouse and offered to let me stay in it for the night. He also let me take a shower and later let me stay in a complimentary motel room. I went over to the restaurant and met Vicki & Laura. They have great food and great service.

Later while I was outside icing my feet a woman named Loretta stopped and wanted to make sure I had a place to stay. She was so kind. She had seen me earlier in the day and brought me some home made jam & banana bread.

So far my trek through this part of the north started off on a very positive note and I was feeling optimistic about tomorrow.
