Day 138 - Winnipeg

Today was such a wonderful day I had to give it its own page.

I got in touch with Aileen who is the Manager of Public Relations for the Winnipeg Humane Society. I was planning to stop by at noon today and she proceeded to tell me that today at noon SHAW tv would be there covering a story on adoptions and my timing was good and come on down. After I got off the phone with her I couldn't wait to meet them all. I was so encouraged by our conversation.

I hopped on the bus and got there just before noon. Aileen met me outside and took me in to meet everyone. It was one of the friendliest welcomes I've had. Aileen introduced me to Vickie, Bill and most of their staff. They were so friendly and cheerful. I met Joanne from SHAW who would be doing the interview. We had Buster, a mix german sheppard/husky, who was up for adoption join us for the interview. He was so playful and even knocked Joanne off her feet. It was so much fun doing that. After that Bill took me for a tour of their facility and meet the shelter pets. He even shared their plans and construction for the new building that should be ready at the end of October. I'll have to come back for another visit. It was so wonderful meeting everyone their. I loved hearing about the amazing efforts they do to spay and neuter pets. Some of the staff make spay & neutering accessible to people who can't get to clinics. Isn't that wonderful! They gave me a fleece sweater for the cold nights to take with me and they even took up a collection to help pay for my new running shoes. And if that wasn't enough Aileen drove me to the Canadian Footwear store so I wouldn't have to walk! She's also going to help get in touch with some of the shelters ahead of me. They are doing wonderful things in Winnipeg for our companion friends and I am grateful for their kindness and memorable visit with them. My stay in Winnipeg has been both positive and encouraging.
