Day 104 - Obatanga Boundary

It rained over night in Wawa and into the morning. It was close to 11am before I would head out. On my way by the big goose I took a picture for a family on vacation for them. I remembered doing that with my family when we were growing up.

Before I got on the highway an OPP officer stopped me and told me my sister was worried cause she hadn't heard from me and she asked them to check my where abouts. I felt so bad. We had a bit of a communication breakdown in Wawa. The officer was great and even gave me some headsup about what was between Wawa and White River. Pretty much nothing but about 30 miles was a lodge he thought was open if I could make it that far and they would probably let me put my tent up there. That would be my target. The Obatanga Provincial Park campground was closer to White River and would be too far.

Once we got things straightened out I was on my way. From the top of the hill looking out onto the highway I would start with a downhill stretch and then it would be a bit of a climb for a bit. It was 98 km to White River and nothing but bush between me and the next town. I wanted to do it in two days and felt good about reaching the lodge by this evening. My confidence was building having made it this far and I was getting anxious to get to Nipigon and Red Rock where my two sisters live.

I passed a couple of more cyclists and got through the hills. There it was. A sign for the Halfway Lodge. I was praying that it was open and sure enough it was. The owner had no problem with me setting up my tent. He told me about a bear that had been hit crossing the highway two nights ago. He let me store my food in his truck over night.
