My cousin Andre dropped me off just before Chalk River and told me he would pick me up again later so I could spend another night at his place. He`s the same age as my older sister Chris. Now I understand why they have been great friends all these years. He`s a great guy and both him and his wife have become angels in my heart.
I was glad to be carrying a light back pack today since the shoulders along this stretch of the highway were really soft and it would have made pushing Gidget difficult. Gidget had the day off today.
There would be no one following me today. I kept checking behind me but it was just me again.
I was halfway to Deep River when a car pulled over in the distance. Someone was waving and calling me by name. It was Kim from Ottawa. We played ball hockey together. She was on her way to a campground near Sturgeon Falls for the weekend with her family. I was glad she stopped.
I didn't quite make it to Deep River and it started to pour rain. I waited it out at the Subway there. It cleared enough to move on. My cousin Andre caught up with me in Rolphton and followed me to Mackey where I would stop for the day. On our way back to his place we drove through the Petawawa base for a tour. I enjoyed that. It brought back memories of my days in the military.
While I was running Andre had fixed up Gidget for me. He put new tires on and blew the grit out of the bearings that gave her some new life.
My sister Chris called to see how I was doing. That night I fell asleep thinking how fortunate I am to have such a great family and friends.
Even animals need compassion and kindness!
