Day 80 - Bonfield

Blanche-Helene dropped me back at Mattawa. We saw a few deer. My feet were throbbing a little bit more everyday. Soaking my feet in ice water and massaging my feet has become a daily routine now.

There were more hills today but I was only carrying a light back pak. I was able to give Gidget another day of rest.

Another vehicle would pull over. It was Kim's parents. They were on their way back to Ottawa. They signed my flag next to where Kim had signed. I thought that was so great! An OPP car also stopped to see if everything was OK. They had asked me where Gidget was. I told them I gave her the day off.

A little further up the road I stopped at a rest stop and met a nice couple from the States. They told me about a similar program they supported and how successful it had been in their community. They thought it was great we were trying to do the same thing in Canada. That was great to hear.

I reached the Bonfield junction and spent another night at Blanche-Helen's where I met her daughter and two other grand children who were up for a visit.

Oh,wow, Michelle--I saw you on Hwy 17 between Mattawa and Bonfield! At the time I had not yet heard of your mission, but when I saw you I had an urge to stop. Due to the road and traffic I didn't stop, but now I wish that I had found a spot and waited for you so that I could meet you and sign your flag. What you are doing for the sake of animals is awe-inspiring.

My husband and I are lifelong animal lovers and rescuers. We are poor financially but rich in spirit and love for all living creatures. We have eight cats, two dogs, one pot-bellied pig and many birds that we care for. We have rescued several chickens from a poultry auction and given them a good home where they can roam free in the daytime and be safe at night. All of our cats and dogs either came from an animal shelter or were obviously unwanted strays, including a pregnant female cat who presented us with three beautiful kittens. All of our cats and dogs are spayed or neutered, save for the two female kittens who we hope to have spayed soon. It would be so wonderful to have a spay-neuter clinic or other financial help for those of us with very limited income but very big hearts.

Thank you for all you are doing to raise awareness of the plight of dogs, cats and other creatures "thrown away" by thoughtless humans. None of them deserved to be killed.
