Day 18/19 - Corner Brook

It was about 6:30am when I heard someone unlock the door to the gas station. They opened up at 7am. I went in to use the washroom and have a coffee and cinnamin bun. It was really wet out so I decided I would head out about 9am.
My feet were still sore. I wrapped my baby toe with gauze and put bandages on the other toes. I had callus cushions under my feet and cotton between each toe. Dry socks. Hopefully that would get me 50 km to Corner Brook today.

My back pak felt heavier with the drenched tent and cover sheet. I only filled my hydration pak half full to try to keep the weight down. I broke the run down into three stages to try to give myself a psycological edge. Three 10 mile runs. Get thru the first 10 miles and I would be 1/3 done. Get thru the next 10 miles and I would be 2/3 done. Then countdown from 10 after that. The thought of being in Corner Brook tonight was encouraging.

There was no wind but more hills. It stayed cloudy and drizzly. I got thru the first 10 miles but I was struggling today. I stopped at a truck weigh station and used their washroom. They gave me a glass of water. I ate an energy bar, stretched my shoulders and pressed on. I was using folded towels for extra padding under my shoulder straps but today that didn't seem like enough. My back and shoulders were starting to ache.

I got thru another 5 miles which meant I was half way to Corner Brook. Then I passed the 20 mile mark and knew I was more than 2/3 done and I started to countdown from 10. The scenery into Corner Brook was spectacular. The feeling of being close was giving me more energy. Just a few more km and I would be there. Tonight I would stay in a hotel and checked myself into The Comfort Inn. Tomorrow (rainy day) I would visit the Corner Brook S.P.C.A., go to the pharmacy and would head out again Friday morning for Port-aux-Basques (220km away) and try to be on the ferry by Tuesday May 8.
