I couldn't believe I was going to be at the Terry Fox Lookout later today. It was even harder to believe that its been three and a half months since I left St. John's NL and I had run halfway across the country. Wow! It feels like a dream. I've met so many wonderful people along the way and so many unselfish people that have helped me get this far. Wow! I wish they could all be with me today, not just in spirit. The more I thought about it the faster my heart went. I was excited and nervous at the same time and my feet kept trying to keep pace with my heart. I looked over at Tylar riding his bike beside me and I couldn't be more proud of him than I am at this moment for him wanting to be a part of this and for his compassion at a young age. I was so happy he was with me. It was a beautiful day. I forgot all about any aches and pains I had. I was anxious to get to LakeShore Drive and meet up with the people from New Hope Rescue at the LakeView Lodge.
Tylar and I made our way through some construction and just a few hills. We had some pretty motivating conversations about how you can never go wrong doing the right things. We saw a deer but not much else. Before long we were on Lakeshore Drive and got to the Lodge first. It wasn't long though and everyone arrived. We met Valerie, Cindy and Susan. They brought their dog Cone, a beautiful Husky, to run with us. Their other dog Lillie road in the truck with Cindy. Valerie and Susan carried a banner they had made and we were off and running. Not far down the road Janie and her dog Sam joined us. It was so much fun having them with me. Sam and Cone ran with us as far as the highway and then joined us again at the top of the hill. The hill to the lookout was one hill I didn't mind climbing. The feeling was almost overwhelming. I had to pinch myself. I was really here.
We got to the monument and Kristi from TB News was waiting for us. She was terrific and it was great knowing TB News would show their coverage on the 6pm and 11pm news and reach out to more people. The whole day had been amazing and ended on a high note. It all seemed so surreal.
After Kristi left we went to Valerie's sisters place for pizza and drinks. Susan was very kind and drove Tylar and I to my sisters. They had been so terrific and I can't thank them enough for everything they've done. This trully was a memorable day.
Tomorrow I would meet up with them again at Animal Services and take a couple of rest days before heading west to Vancouver.
Even animals need compassion and kindness!
