Before I left I called the Brandon Sun and CKLQ Radio. The Sun had just run a full front page article on Saturday for adopting pets. I thought that was great! I spoke with John at CKLQ and he would try to put something on the air for me.
It was a beautiful day for running. I passed horses out in the fields, they always looked at me as I went by. I came to a valley which had its own beauty. There was a young couple with a flat waiting for a tow. It didn't look like they had a spare.
There were lots of fields and farms but not much else. Thirty-two miles got me to Oak Lake. I stopped at the gas station for a drink and to find out if there were any campgrounds. Some young guys were working on an old car and decided to speed test it. There wasn't much in the way of accomodations. The motel had been condemed and there was no one at the B&B. There was a campground but it was just a patch of trees and no body running it. It worked on the honor system. There were a few trailers occupied by some construction workers. It was pretty much my only option. There was a storm coming and it was starting to get late. As I walked past one of the guys there he said you just pick a spot and put your tent up and I didn't have to worry about any of them that they were a good bunch of guys. I put up my tent and settled in for the night. I heard someone say 'Are you sleeping?' I got out of my tent and there was a native fellow curious about what I was doing here. He wanted to warn me about the bad weather that was coming tonight. I talked with him for a bit and then he left. The mosquitoes were biting. I could hear the guys laughing, I think they were playing poker. The park was close to the train tracks and some back roads. The train went by every hour. There was one car that kept speeding by up and down the road. Not sure why. I couldn't wait for daylight so I could pack up and leave.
Even animals need compassion and kindness!
