157 - Moose Jaw

I ate breakfast in my tent, bagels and peanut butter. I heard someone walking near by. It was a maintenance guy. I chatted with him for a few minutes before I left.
The uphill climb continued and there were more rolling hills now and there was still a prairie headwind to push through. There were so many dead birds and foxes on the side of the road.

I got to the Information Centre in Moose Jaw and called Ray at the humane society. He gave me directions to their shelter. On the way a reporter stopped to interview me. Ray had called them. I got to the shelter and met the staff and Ray gave me a tour. They were all so nice. Ray was very kind and invited me to stay at his place for the night. He and his wife Karen have a bed & breakfast for cats they run from their home. We had dinner and some great conversation about solving the overpopulation problem. They gave me a tour of their home which included going out to the barn to see their two horses. They also have a rescued dog named Simon and five of their own cats. Their B & B rooms for the cats are built into the basement part of the home and its a great environment for the cats complete with lots of TLC. Before we called it a night we sat down and had some more great conversation. Karen told me if she had a million dollars she would put it towards spay & neutering. They shared with me their struggles to advance the humane society to where it is today over a seven year period. Now thats perserverance and trully a success story in itself. They are two very caring people.
